Anita Whitty Berweger, 98, passed away on May 7, 2017 at Hooverwood in Indianapolis. She had been a resident there for nearly three years. She is succeeded by her two daughters, Mary Alice (Whitty) Bigelow of Carmel and Susan (Whitty) Pedersen of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Martin Whitty of Milwaukee, and her second husband, Ed Berweger of Sanborn, Wisconsin.

Anita was born in Sanborn, Wisconsin (near Ashland) on July 11, 1918 and was the oldest child of Frank and Alice Kirnberger. Her grandparents emigrated from Germany and Norway in 1884 and settled near Sanborn shortly thereafter. She enjoyed 98 years of good health and lived independently until three years ago when she suffered several falls which necessitated care and she was moved to Indianapolis by her daughter, Mary.

Anita grew up during the Depression and her family moved from Sanborn to Milwaukee when she was in grade school. She married Martin Whitty in December 1940. Anita moved back to Sanborn shortly after Martin’s passing in 1973, and lived there until 3 years ago. She married Ed Berweger in March 1983. They enjoyed 13 years of marriage until his death in August 1996.

Anita was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland, Wisconsin. She had six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank Hooverwood for their loving care over the past three years. She loved and collected angels her whole life and now she is one.

I moved to Sanborn area 10 years ago. Visited with Anita through Sanborn Community Club Christmas Cookie deliveries. Enjoyed visiting with her and hearing her stories of the area and her life. Very nice lady.
